Payments worth £7m are underway for Scottish hill sheep farmers.

Scottish hill farmers get £62/ewe hogget

Payments are to begin from 14 May to over 1,000 upland sheep farmers who will receive £62 per ewe hogget through the Scottish Upland Sheep Support Scheme.

The £7m package is a targeted coupled support scheme for sheep farmers with at least 80% of their farm classified as hill ground (region three in Scotland’s BPS scheme).

The ewe hoggets must have been retained from 1 December through to the end of March.

Later completion dates for hill farmers in new sheep scheme

The INHFA said that where a farmer avails of the later completion date, it will mean their payment under the scheme will not be paid "until the end of December or early January".

Suspension of some inspections welcomed by INHFA
