Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage and assault at a house at Falsk, Roscommon at 5.30am this Sunday, a garda spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal.

"A number of people were injured during the incident, and three required hospital treatment. A number of vehicles were set on fire and a dog was also seriously injured and had to be put down as a result," the spokesperson said.

RTE reported that the house was part of recently repossessed farm, and security personnel were guarding it when they came under attack from a group armed with baseball bats.

An anti-eviction activitst and the local Democrat newpaper reported that the property was the same one where a farming family was forcibly evicted on Tuesday.

Local TD Michael Fitzmaurice raised the issue in the Dáil on Wednesday. "Yesterday in County Roscommon a group of 20 or 30 men with dogs came from the North, aided and abetted by An Garda Síochána who blocked off two roads. The group of men pegged three people, two of whom were elderly, out of a house and left them on the side of the road," he said, describing garda support for the eviction as "disgraceful".
