Egmont Agri, based near Mallow, Co Cork, is the sole importer of the SaMASZ farm equipment to Ireland.

SaMASZ is a relatively new name in Irish grass equipment, but is one of the leading European manufacturers of agricultural and municipal machinery.

This includes mowers, tedders and rakes, which are produced at the Polish plant near Zabludów, which recently received a €25m investment in manufacturing and warehousing.

According to Timmy O’Brien of Egmont: “We have been handling the SaMASZ brand since 2014. Since then, we have received very positive feedback from the market and business is growing.

“SaMASZ manufactures all its own mower beds and beds for other mower companies too.

“The mowers have a unique breakaway system. When it meets an object in work, it can break back and lift up automatically to avoid the object and then resets itself. To protect the mower discs if they encounter an obstacle, a shear-key safety system will give way, saving the bed from further damage,” he said.

At this year’s Grass & Muck event, Egmont will have a mix of SaMASZ equipment on demonstration.

For contractors, there will be the 8.61m KDD 861 STH triple-mower, which will be fitted with groupers. The mower comes with hydraulic break-back and quick change blades.

Twin-rotor rake

Operating behind this will be a Z 2-780 twin-rotor rake. This rake has an adjustable working width of 7.2m to 7.6m. The rake uses an oil-immersed cam to rotate the 11 arms on each rotor. Transport width is 2.9m and transport height is 3m. Egmont will also have either a four- or six-rotor tedder operating on the day.

Aside from this equipment, Egmont will also have the Metal-Fach round bale-wrapper and N276 Falcon rear discharge dung spreader operating. On static display will be a 3m disc-harrow and Agrex fertiliser spreader.
