Sunshine and crowds at the 156th Annual Gorey Show
The Gorey Agricultural Show took place in Clonattin on Sunday 20 June 2015, drawing crowds from all the neighbouring counties. Melvin Masterson reports.
The morning kicked off with the judging of the commercial cattle classes. Champion on the day was “Dolly”, a January 2015 born Limousin cross calf owned by Melvin Masterson, Enniscorthy. Reserve champion went to Owen O’ Neil, Bagnalstown, Co Carlow.
Across in the Charolais ring, the champion went to Seamus Byrne from Roundwood, Co Wicklow. His cow, “Sportsfield Daisy”, was sired by Goldstar Volvo out of an Induran dam.
Hereford followed the Charolais judging with large entries across all classes. Champion was awarded to Mervyn Parr who travelled from Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny with his cow “Tourtane Poll 1 Diamond” who was sired by Trillick Best.

Belgian Blue Champion went to Melvin Masterson, Enniscorthy with his September 2014 born heifer calf “Boroside Illusion” sired by Attribut. Reserve Champion went to “Boroside Jones”- a January born bull calf.
Judging of the dairy section followed and the champion went to Gary Hurley, Clonpaddin, Arklow, Co Wicklow with his cow “Clonpaddin Jill”.
