Supermac's will close all its 120 outlets across the country by 7pm Thursday 26 March due to the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus.

The Irish-owned outlet is the latest food service chain to announce a widespread closure, with McDonald’s set to shut from 7pm on Monday 23 March.

Supermac's, whose owner Pat McDonagh has stated his strong commitment to Irish farmers on a number of occasions, spent approximately €40m on Irish produce last year. Around one quarter of that spend was on Irish chicken.

Challenges

In a statement, Supermac's said it was announcing the closures due to “the ever-changing challenges presented by the health crisis” and in the interests of staff and customers.

It said the closure would not be until Thursday to allow emergency services, that are using the outlets for food, to make alternative arrangements. All seating areas in its lobbies will close tonight.

“We would like to thank our staff and customers in these challenging times. We would also like to thank the emergency services personnel and wish them well in their efforts in these unprecedented times,” the chain said.
