An Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon will attend this weekend’s Macra rally in Limerick.
The young farmers organisation will push the Taoiseach and Minister on the future of young farmers, with CAP negotiations, farm succession and generational renewal up for discussion.
Macra is calling for at least 10% of the next CAP budget to be ring-fenced for young farmers, alongside targeted supports to improve farm viability and facilitate generational renewal.

Macra president Josephine O’Neill said: “What happens in the next CAP will help determine the future for young farmers. There is so much uncertainty, with the goalposts constantly changing. Young people need confidence that meaningful supports will be in place to help them establish and develop viable farming businesses.”
Two panel discussions will take place at this year’s conference on Saturday. “Our Future at Stake - Farming Beyond 2027” will examine CAP supports, access to land, investment and farm viability.
“Claiming Our Place - Building the Future of Rural Ireland” will explore how rural development policy can support young farmers, enterprise and opportunities for young people to build their futures in rural communities.
