Teagasc is hosting a webinar as part of its Let’s talk organics series on Wednesday 8 February, with the topic of the night being converting beef housing to meet organic standards.

A panel of Teagasc organic specialists - Elaine Leavy, Joe Kelleher and Martin Bourke - will host the interactive webinar and discuss the specification of organic housing, as well as how farmers can utilise or adapt existing farm infrastructure to meet requirements.

The panel will also be joined by organic farmers Fergus Hanly, Co Limerick, and Tadhg and Claire Halpin, Co Clare, who will share their experiences of converting beef housing to meet organic standards.

Organic scheme

The webinar will be of particular interest to the approximately 2,100 applicants to the new Organic Farming Scheme, many of whom are thought to be drystock farmers.

With farmers awaiting letters of acceptance, those who have been accepted will have up until the 2023 housing period to have qualifying accommodation in place.

The webinar begins at 7.30pm, with interested parties able to register by clicking here.
