The Scottish national Texel sale in Lanark on Thursday saw prices hit a massive 200,000gns. While only one ram hit the six-figure mark, over 20 rams made it to five-figure sums.

Topping the sale and selling for the second-highest price sheep in the UK was Midlock Capalsi from the Wright family. Sired by Knock Bantastic, this March-born ET ram is out of a Mullan Amigo daughter that goes back to a Garngour dam.

Back and forth bidding saw the ram quickly pass 100,000gns before the hammer eventually settled at 200,000gns.

Securing the high seller was a two-part consortium of Charlie Boden, buying for the Sportsmans and Mellor Vale flocks and Hugh and Alan Blackwood buying for their Auldhouseburn flock.

Irish breeders will know Alan Blackwood as the selected judge for the Irish Texel Sheep Society’s premier sale in Blessington earlier this month.

Taking home a price of 65,000gns was the pre-sale show champion Grangour Craftsman from the Clark family. This son of the 17,000gns Silvermere Baltic is out of a dam by Mossvale Winston and is a maternal brother to the 40,000gns Garngour Alabama.

Overall the sale saw 342 rams lambs sold to an exceptional average of £3,384.
