This empty sales ring in Central Auctions Nenagh Mart fails to reflect a big jump in buyer activity at Tuesday’s sale. The increased number of buyers were attracted by a clearance sale of two local suckler herds which met a fantastic trade and recorded prices ranging from €1,900 to €2,520 for top-quality Limousin cows and autumn-born bull calves at foot. \ Odhran Ducie

Toasting with the cup - Aurivo suppliers the Starrett family from Donegal celebrate winning the overall NDC/Kerrygold competition. The competition result was broadcast on TV late on Friday night and the cup was delivered to Lifford by courier. Strange but wonderful times for the Starrett family. The cows are still grazing for a few hours each day despite the very heavy rainfall over last weekend. \ Clive Wasson
