A decision on dosing cows for worms/fluke will be made in early January.

It’s been a busy few days on Tullamore Farm, with BDGP tagging taking place last week and dosing of weanlings taking place this week.
We had an unfortunate incident last week where a bull weanling slipped and broke its leg and had to be euthanised as the break was above the knee.
The concrete area outside the crush was quite smooth and we are going to see if we can get it grooved to prevent any further slips or falls.

Dosing
Some coughing is taking place in the weanling sheds.
Weanlings were dosed with an Avermectin-based product on 6 October.
Faecal samples were taken and returned clear, but on veterinary advice we are going to dose with a pour-on product that will cover both worms and lice. All weanlings have been vaccinated for pneumonia and there are no sick animals.
Intakes are good and all weanlings will be weighed next week to monitor performance.
Weanling bulls are on 5kg/head/day and weanling heifers are on 2kg/head/day. Cull cows are up to 6kg/head/day of the finishing ration and will be slaughtered in January.
Cows were also faecal-sampled and blood-sampled for the presence of fluke and both samples came back clear. We will hold off on making a decision on dosing cows for worms/fluke until early January when we will treat for lice and also vaccinate against scour.
