There will be great interest in two large farms of good land on the edge of Sligo town which are on offer by Savills and are set to be sold by private treaty.

Doonally

The 169ac dairy farm at Doonally is in one block.

The first parcel is a 169ac dairy farm at Doonally with a guide price of €1.3m.

Doonally, formerly part of Sligo AI Centre, is in a single block 4km from Sligo town. It is laid out in paddocks and has internal roads and cow tracks. There is also a modern farmyard consisting of:

  • An eight-bay cubicle shed measuring 50.7m × 18.7m of portal frame design with a slatted tank and feed passages on both sides with overhang roofs. This shed has 160 cubicles.
  • A parlour with capacity for a 20-point herringbone milking parlour.
  • A calving shed measuring 18.1m × 8.9m.
  • A calf-rearing shed measuring 18.1m × 8.9m.
  • The farm is subject to a farming lease which terminates in 2026. The fixed equipment in the dairy unit is owned by the current tenant and is excluded from the sale.

    Hazelwood

The 76ac grazing farm at Hazelwood.

The other parcel is 76ac of grazing land at Hazelwood with a guide price of €1.15m. It is in two blocks, lying either side of the R286 Dromohair Road and 3km from Sligo town.

The land at Hazelwood is in two blocks, lying either side of the R286 Dromohair Road.

One section is 57ac, the other 19ac. The land offers excellent development potential.

Two 10-year planning permissions were granted by An Bord Pleanála in 2009 for 791 dwellings but this permission has since expired.

James Butler, head of country agency with Savills, said: “The two farms present a variety of options for buyers; from farmers seeking an expanse of land to investors looking for development opportunities and income generation. Few similar opportunities have come to the market in the west of Ireland in recent years and the farms are likely to attract the interest of buyers from further afield, as well as from the local area.”
