Westerwold seed will be unavailable for the next two weeks, according to DLF Seeds and Goldcrop. Demand across northern Europe has put pressure on supplies.

Paul Flanagan of DLF Seeds said: “There has been a crop harvested but it will be mid-August before we see stocks of Westerwold seed again.” However, Dermot Campion of Germinal said that delivery of Westerwold is due at the end of the week and that “demand” was alleviated by buying from sister companies in the UK.

Italian ryegrass and forage rape are not under as much pressure.

Hybrid varieties of rape and kale are currently unavailable but will be available again next week.

Farmers are encouraged to let their merchant or supplier know their intention to buy as soon as possible as it will be a first-come, first-served basis.
