Martin Toohey and his brother, from Borrisokane in Tipperary, have been lighting up machinery for eight years. This year, they’ve lit up a New Holland T7.200 and a Herron trailer.
Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, he said: “There’s about 8,000 bulbs used for it and it took about 80 man hours to put it together. There was a good crowd of us at it.

“Myself and my brother decided to light up a tractor years ago. We do a different machine each year. This year, we used a neighbour’s trailer as we only make round bales of silage, not pit silage.”
In a Facebook post, he said that they’re “running out of things to put lights on so thanks to Richie Hogan for loan of the trailer”.
“We’ve never done it for charity before, but this year we have a donation box for our neighbour Billy Goulding. We do a bit of work for his family and he’s five years old and mad about tractors,” he said.
Billy Goulding acquired a virus at the age of two, which left him paralysed from the chin down. His family are now hoping to get him into a facility in north London where he will receive rehab to improve his quality of life.
