Ivan managed to sheer the sheep in 37.9 seconds live on RTÉ’s Big Week on the Farm, which started on Monday night.
The previous record of the fastest sheep shearer was 39.31.
This is the first time the record has been held by an Irish person.
To oversee proceedings was Glenn Pollard from Guinness World Records.
In order for Ivan’s efforts to be a valid world record attempt, the sheep must be in excess of 18 months old and at least 3kg of wool must be removed.
It must be completed in the presence of an expert in sheep shearing and comply with the world shearing committee rules.
