Back in July, Peter Varley visited a new 124-cubicle shed with a 20-unit parlour and all handling units under the one roof in Co Galway.

New grain stores are not very common given the poor commodity prices over the last few years. The Hobsons in Co Meath are bucking that trend, however, and are almost finished building a new grain dryer and 2,500t capacity store.

On the sheep side of things William Conlon got a behind-the-scenes look at the new €930,000 sheep shed that can accommodate up to 750 ewes.

In Galway BETTER farmers Nigel O’Kane decided to construct a four-bay apex-roofed slatted shed. Incorporated in the design of the shed is a creep with cattle handling facilities. The shed cost Nigel a lowly €25,000.

And finally William Conlon visited a new six bay slatted beef shed that was designed to be run as a one man operation with ease of cattle movement vital.
