Up to 30mm of rain has been forecast for Donegal, with higher accumulations expected in mountainous areas.

This has prompted Met Éireann to issue a status yellow rainfall warning, which takes effect from Tuesday 19 January at 11am and will last until 9pm the same day.

In addition, Met Éireann has issued an advisory weather warning for Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, and Wicklow.

It forecasts that the weather will turn colder on Wednesday, with conditions becoming increasingly wintry for the rest of the week. There is a risk of sleet and snow at times.

The advisory warning is in place from midnight Wednesday 20 January.
