Monday morning will be mainly dry, cold and frosty with icy patches according to Met Éireann, which will gradually clear.
A status yellow snow-ice warning is in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, East Cork, Tipperary and Waterford on Monday from 6.00pm until early on Tuesday morning.
The afternoon will see rain develop in the west. It will spread eastwards through the evening and early night, turning to sleet and snow.
On Monday evening and night, falls of snow will give accumulations of 0 to 3cm leading to hazardous conditions on roads and footpaths
Highest temperatures will range between 4°C to 7°C.
On Monday night sleet and snow will mainly affect the eastern counties.
Snow will clear in the east overnight and wintry showers will develop in the west.
Frost and ice will form also leading to hazardous conditions on roads and footpaths. Lowest temperatures of -2°C to +1°C.
Tuesday
Tuesday will be cold, bright day with sunny spells and scattered wintry showers in the north and west during the day.
Maximum temperatures on Tuesday of 3°C to 6°C, but feeling colder owing to brisk northwesterly winds.
Cold and frosty weather is predicted by Met Éireann on Tuesday night with a scattering of snow showers spreading eastwards followed by clear skies. A severe frost will follow leading to icy patches.
Wednesday
On Wednesday morning it will be frosty in the east, but cloudier in the west with drizzle developing by noon.
Rain will gradually extend countrywide during the afternoon and evening, possibly preceded by sleet or snow in the east. Daytime highs of 3°C to 6°C generally but 7°C or 8°C near Atlantic coasts.
Thursday
Thursday will be bright with sunny spells and scattered showers, which will turn increasingly wintry after dark and frost will develop on Thursday night.
Highest daytime temperatures of 5°C to 8°C.
The latest forecast for Friday and the weekend indicates that it will be cold with periods of sunshine with scattered wintry showers.
