Hill-walking
8-9 April: The North Leitrim Glens Hill-Walking Festival takes place this Easter weekend. Walks will take place on Saturday, 8 and Sunday 9 April and are classified as long and medium. You will have the opportunity to conquer the county’s highest point, Truskmore and to tick some of the Leitrim Way off your list. Registration closes on Thursday 6 April. Dog Show
2 April: All dog breeds and their humans will be flocking to Kerry this Sunday for the Tralee and District Canine Club open show. Taking place in Castleisland community centre from 1:30pm, non-exhibitors are welcome to come along and see the variety of breeds and observe the classes. Due to the nature of this event, if you do wish to attend, the organisers ask that only dogs that are taking part come along. On the day there will be puppy classes from four to six months, then six to 12 months and showing groups including terrier, hound, working and gun dog. 18-23 April: Heading westwards Irish and international writers, poets and artists will be celebrated at the 38th Cúirt International Festival of Literature. Over 50 events are scheduled including poetry, fiction, theatre, memoir and masterclasses. Irish writers confirmed include Anne Enright, Sebastian Barry, Donal Ryan, Emer McLysaght and Sophie White. Highlights to look forward to are a sea swim and readings event at Blackrock diving tower to mark World Earth Day on 22 April as well as story hour in Charlie Byrne’s bookshop on the Saturday and Sunday, including scéaltaí as Gaeilge. 18-23 April: If you could do with a laugh, Fawlty Towers - The Dining Experience might give you a tickle. Expect the full Basil Fawlty experience in Cork’s Metropole Hotel on MacCurtain street. You’ll be greeted by Basil and Sybil, while Manuel will be on hand to help serve you dinner. Just be warned, previous guests received a nice bucket, after they had asked for an ice bucket. Marvel at Grace Kelly’s green Givenchy suit that she wore on her visit to Ireland in 1961, study the detail on Princess Diana’s Catherine Walker jewelled India dress and for a limited time, take in Amy Winehouse’s collection of never-seen-before dresses custom made by her friend and stylist Naomi Parry.
