Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Alex White will launch a white paper laying out the future for energy generation in Ireland next Wednesday at the Mansion House in Dublin. The white paper, entitled ‘Ireland’s Transition to a Low Carbon Energy future 2015-2030’, will lay out the roadmap for energy policy up to 2030.

2016 is set to be a pivotal year in the shaping of the country’s energy needs and how we will generate energy for the next generations.

Overall, Ireland must reduce its emissions by 20% between 2005 and 2020 under existing EU commitments. As well as onshore wind energy, which Minister White stresses is “not the whole story concerning renewables”, the plan will include solar energy, offshore wind energy and biomass - energy derived from organic material. Oil and gas exploration are also likely to be in the white paper.
