Christine Sloan grew up on a dairy farm close to Lisburn, Co Down, and still helps out on the home farm as much as possible.

She always wanted a career within the agri-food sector, but had no definite path in mind and started off working in a different area to agriculture.

“I’ve been open to different opportunities throughout my career. I don’t think you really know what you want to do until you’ve tested the water in a few areas,” said Christine.

Education

After completing A-Levels, Christine enrolled at Queens University and studied for a degree in food, quality, safety and nutrition with professional studies.

Having weighed up the merits of studying an agriculture or food course, she felt food would offer a broader range of career options upon graduation.

Her current position is actually in agriculture, but she is using the fundamentals from her degree and her experience in the food industry.

Christine graduated with first-class honours from Queens in July 2015 and secured a place on Dale Farm’s graduate management scheme in September 2015.

This was initially a 12-month appointment, after which she was offered a permanent position with Dale Farm.

Christine Sloan has had several roles within Dale Farm.

She has held a number of roles within the company since then. First off was the graduate management programme, then with the technical department in its Dromona branded food division.

Current position

Christine now has responsibility for all of Dale Farm interactions with the Red Tractor quality assurance scheme and enjoys all of the new challenges and responsibility the position presents.
