A world record price was paid for an Irish working sheepdog pup under six months at a recent online Farmers Marts Dolgellau sale in Wales.

The sheepdog pup, named Bess, bred by Susan Venney from Cushendall, Co Antrim, sold for £4,200. The three-month-old pup was purchased by a buyer in Germany.

One of the top prices for a fully trained sheepdog was paid by Claremorris, Co Mayo, buyer Joseph Quinn at the same auction.

Over 90 lots were entered in total, which included 60 trained and 30 partly trained sheepdogs and pups. The sale had a 79% clearance rate, with 22 lots selling for over £4,000.

Topping the sale was a fully trained dog, which sold for £13,200 and will be travelling to his new home in Italy.
