A machinery clearance auction took place last week just outside Fermoy at the Corrin Event Centre. The auction, which was organised by Cork Marts, saw 200 lots go under the hammer, with an 83% clearance rate achieved.

Entries included tractors, general farm equipment and livestock trailers.

The sale was conducted in a hybrid format, with bids being accepted from both online bidders and from 50 buyers who were allowed into the main sale ring (500-seater arena) in the centre.

Martin Lonergan from Cork Marts explained that the online and real-time bidding worked very well, with the firm using auction boards displaying the lots and prices along with the standard audio of the auction.

A total of 250 punters registered online to bid, with a further 2,957 viewers tuning in to the Mart Eye platform to keep an eye on proceedings.

Some sample prices not pictured include €5,000 for a 14ft tri-axle Nugent livestock trailer, €4,500 for a 1975 Ford 4000 and €8,500 for a tidy 2009 Kubota RTV.

Cork Marts said that it has a further two upcoming clearance machinery sales likely to be scheduled around the end of October.
