The Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association will be putting on a display of some of the best pedigree and commercial Aberdeen Angus cattle at this year’s National Ploughing Championships at Ratheniska, Co Laois.

Several of the major national championship winners from the pedigree show circuit will be on display over the three days, alongside a selection of very high-end Aberdeen Angus sired crossbred stock.

Eustace Burke, president of the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association, along with many of the society officers, will be in attendance throughout the event to meet and chat with the membership and anybody interested in Aberdeen Angus cattle.

Reserve senior champion went to Albert and Jenifer de Cogan for their cow Mogeely Diana.

In keeping with previous years, a mobile catering unit serving Irish Aberdeen Angus beef will once again be in operation adjacent to the stand.

The world renowned Aberdeen Angus steak burgers always go down well each year.

The meat producer group, Angus Beef Ireland, will also have a presence inside the Irish Aberdeen Angus marquee and this will again add extra interest to this year’s proceedings.

Angus Beef Ireland will be joined by its main processers, Ashbourne Meats, Dawn Meats, Foyle Food Group and Liffey Meats.

This means that procurement agents from these leading factories will be on hand to answer any questions that farmers may have.

Reserve junior champion went to Carrowboy Victory from the Gibbons family in Roscommon.

The National Ploughing Championships will be the first major event for a very busy few weeks in the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association calender.

Just two weeks after the Ploughing, the association will be running the brand new and much anticipated Irish Aberdeen Angus Autumn Extravaganza, set for Thurles mart on the weekend of the 8 and 9 October.

This well supported event will feature the association’s premier sale on Saturday, which will have over 40 of the country’s best pre-selected Aberdeen Angus stock on offer.

On the Sunday, all eyes turn to the national calf show, which boasts a prize fund of €10,000.

Junior and reserve overall champion went to Albert and Jenifer de Cogan for their bull Mogeely Dram X783.

Speaking ahead of the autumn calendar, breed secretary Shane Murphy said: “We are truly looking forward to meeting everyone again at this year’s National Ploughing Championships. This starts a jam-packed few weeks for the association, as we eagerly prepare for our first Autumn Extravaganza.

“This event is open to all and will see €10,000 of prize money awarded to breeders throughout the country, with the supreme champion calf walking away with €1,000.

“We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the three days,” he said.
