Shares in Donegal Investment Group (formerly Donegal Creameries) are up almost 5% this week to €9.75 after the company announced it was investing in a seed potato company in India.

On Thursday, Donegal announced that its subsidiary business, IPM Potato Group, had invested in Utkal Tubers, an Indian start-up company that specialises in seed potatoes.

Varieties

Donegal will licence 12 of its newest seed potato varieties to Utkal, which will market them to farmers in India.

India is the world’s second-largest potato-producing country behind China, producing between 45m and 50m tonnes of potatoes every year.

Other share performances

Meanwhile, shares in Greencore, the Irish-headquartered sandwich manufacturer, shot up 6% this week on the London stock market to reach £2.06.

Since the beginning of 2019, Greencore shares have risen more than 10% in value.

FBD Insurance shares were up more than 3% this week to €9.16, while shares in Origin Enterprises are up 2% in the week to €5.34.

Glanbia shares are up slightly (+1%) to €17.35, while shares in Kerry Group were down less than 1% to €96.70.

On oil markets, the price of Brent crude oil has shown some upward movement in the last week and is currently trading above $69/barrel.
