Ornua is investing a further €10m to expand its Kerrygold butter production facility in Dusseldorf, Germany. This plant takes Irish block butter and packs it into the iconic gold Kerrygold retail packs.
This brings the total investment in the Dusseldorf facility, which was opened nine years ago, to €50m. The investment will expand production and storage facilities and is expected to be complete by end of 2017.

Germany has always been a core market for Kerrygold and it continues to see strong demand with continued double-digit growth. It is now the number one butter brand in Germany.
Ornua first brought the Kerrygold brand to Germany in 1973, where it has built a loyal customer base with strong awareness of the brand. It has since extended the range to cheese and most recently launched Kerrygold yoghurts. The yoghurts have performed very strongly and are ahead of target. Currently, 23,000 German food retailers carry Kerrygold products, where it sells for a premium over its competitors.
In the last two years, Ornua has grown its manufacturing capacity in China, Germany, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, the US and the UK. It also opened its first Kerrygold butter manufacturing facility, in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, earlier this year.
Kerrygold sales retail at around €750m, with targets to grow to €1bn in the coming years. Kevin Lane, CEO of Ornua, said that ongoing investment in the brand and facilities has been critical to the success of Kerrygold.
