Speciality bakery giant Aryzta has said it expects to see a “bumpy” recovery in its business over the coming months, as economies continue to ease restrictions relating to COVID-19. On Tuesday, Aryzta said it had seen a steady improvement in revenues since the COVID-19 pandemic began earlier this year.
The company said its sales for June were down 23% on the same month last year, which compares to a drop in sales of 36% for May and a slump of 49% in April. Aryzta said it was seeing improved weekly revenue trends across its core markets of Europe and North America, due to recovering sales from quick service restaurants like McDonald’s and Subway, as well as strong in-store bakery sales.
However, the company said that food service and convenience retail channels remain challenged, due to the collapse in tourism and a decline in people eating on the go because they are still working from home.
