Carbery, the west Cork-based dairy processor, has acquired the Italian flavours company, Janousek, for an undisclosed sum. Janousek will become part of Carbery’s international flavours business, Synergy.
Carbery said the acquisition will reinforce Synergy’s business position in mainland Europe and provide an innovation and manufacturing hub to cater for further expansion. Janousek was founded in 1983 in Prague manufacturing natural flavours and extracts.
The company relocated to Italy in 1992, where it operates from a state of the art facility that serves markets in both Western and Eastern Europe.

Carbery chief executive Jason Hawkins said the positioning of this new business in Italy provided opportunities for Synergy to expand its business in Europe, while also providing the business with some cover from Brexit as Synergy’s European headquarters are based near London.
“Janousek’s extraction technology and natural flavour capability will further enhance Synergy’s portfolio of technologies which has made it a market leader in the provision of natural flavour solutions for food, nutritional and beverage applications,” Hawkins said.
