Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People Jim Daly has once again postponed the introduction of draft legislation to end nursing home charges on farms and other family business property after three years under the Fair Deal scheme.
Two months ago, Minister Daly told the Dáil that he expected to bring heads of a bill to Cabinet in May.
The latest from the minister’s office is that he now hopes to do this next Tuesday, nearly a year after the Government approved the principle of the reform.

Legislation will then need to clear the Oireachtas, with no chance of this happening before the summer break from mid-July.
