The Beef Plan Movement has instructed its members not to attend the current factory protests.

To do so would be regarded "as an act of gross misconduct" that "will result in immediate expulsion".

It also restated that it has "unequivocally and unconditionally withdrawn all protests from all meat processor sites effective from 9 August".

The statement was issued in a message posted by the county chairs in some, though not all, of the Beef Plan Movement's county WhatsApp groups.

This comes less than a month after the Beef Plan organised protests outside more than 20 factories over the first two weeks of August.

Change

It represents a significant change of strategy by Beef Plan, in the wake of the legal letters sent by processors to Beef Plan directors and national officers threatening to hold the organsiation liable for the financial losses incurred by processors due to the protests.

Senior Beef Plan members have said the organisation will now concentrate its energies in other directions.

Protests outside factories recommenced on Sunday evening and the Beef Plan Movement stated that it was not involved in any way in this second wave of protests.

Sanction

Now it has gone further, warning of the ultimate sanction for any members who defy its advice and attend the protests.

Injunctions obtained by ABP and Dawn Meats both name "Beef Plan Movement Company Limited by Guarantee" as defendants, but in both documents, the Beef Plan is excluded from the handwritten penal endorsement.
