There are approximately 1,150 farmers participating in the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme currently who are going to miss the target of having 65% of the females in their herd as genotyped 4 and 5 star on the replacement index by 31 October 2025.
The number accounts for 7.6% of SCEP participants.
The herds in question will have to purchase close to 3,000 4 and 5 star heifers in the next six weeks to be eligible for the scheme.

Payment cut
If the farmers in question fail to meet the target they would will see their 2025 payment reduced by 26%. This would be a fine of over €800 based on the average 2024 payment.
Breeding stock are currently hitting record prices with in-calf and maiden heifers in big demand. The next change to evaluations will take place on Tuesday 23 September and farmers should log in to their herdplus account on www.icbf.com to check their herd status.
