Manorhamilton Mart’s bank holiday sale saw a large entry of weanlings, store cattle, breeding cows and cull cows.

Activity was brisk ringside for the bullocks and cull cows, with store-type animals with frame to take feeding most sought after, with these types being battled for by feedlot buyers and finishers.

Bullocks from 400kg to 500kg saw some better-quality continental types sell to highs of €4.65/kg, with these types selling in the main between €4.20/kg to €4.40/kg, with Angus- and Hereford-crosses selling between €3.80/kg and €4.20/kg.

More forward types from 500kg to 600kg were made up of mainly dairy-beef bullocks, with Angus-cross types of this averaging €3.60/kg, while heavier finished lots above 600kg were in tight supply.

The majority of cows on offer required further feeding, with younger cows and particularly first-time calvers commanding the strongest price per kilo.

Store-type Limousin and Charolais-cross types sold in the main from €2.98/kg to €3.69/kg, with some top-end feeding cows selling just below €4/kg.

Friesian and first-cross dairy beef cows sold in the main between €2.60/kg and €2.95/kg, with several lots of well-fleshed cows selling above the €3/kg mark with relative ease.
