The female show and sale took place on Friday last with a very lively trade. The trade for the heavier cows especially was buoyant with one seller averaging €2.07/kg for 832kg. Good Friesian-type feeding cows sold from €150 to €350 over the weight, while continental cows sold from €200 to €450 over the weight. There was a very lively trade for heifers, with lots of butcher and factory activity. Fleshed heifers sold from €2/kg for Angus and Herefords to €2.40/kg for good beef heifers. Store heifers made from €2/kg for Angus and Herefords to €2.80/kg for R and U grades. Weanling heifers suitable for export sold for up to €3.05/kg.
Shipping Friesian calves sold from €30 to €50/head while farmers paid from €70 to €110 for stronger Friesian calves.
