Last week’s sale at Ulster Farmers Market saw a seasonal entry of stock rise to meet a steady trade.
There continues to be strong farmer demand for quality lots, despite lower numbers on offer. Lightweight bullocks sold from £2.00/kg to a top price of £2.38/kg, which was paid for a quality 356kg Charolais, which sold for £850. Heavier steers sold from £1.85/kg to a top price of £2.08/kg, which was paid for a quality 558kg Limousin, which sold for £1,160.
Weanlings on the day sold from £250 to £500 over, with prices in the main ranging from £350 to £450 over.
There was a small entry of calves on the day also, which were met with firm demand. Prices for continental types ranged mainly from £255 to £430, with Angus types selling from £165 to £240. A Hereford heifer sold for £200.
Suckler cows with calves at foot made from £1,400 for a Charolais cow with a heifer calf at foot to a top price of £1,600 for a top-quality Angus cow with a quality heifer calf at foot. Other prices ranged from £1,400 to £1,500.
There was a solid entry of fat or slaughter-fit cows on the day also. The top price achieved was £1.32/kg for a 952kg Charolais cow, which made £1,260.
Limousin cows sold to £1.68/kg for 554kg, or £930. Holstein cows sold to £1.01/kg, which was paid for a 620kg which made £630.
