A combination of better weather, improved grass buyer activity and smaller numbers has lead to an increase in cattle mart prices.

Mart prices have increased slightly in the past week. Improved grass buyer activity has resulted in store bullock prices increasing by €20 to €25/head and store bullocks are selling for €2.00/kg to €2.15/kg, on average, with U grades selling for €2.30/kg to €2.45/kg.
Store heifers between 400kg and 500kg are selling for €2.10/kg to €2.30/kg for average quality types. Better quality U grade heifers have seen a stronger lift in prices of €25 to €35/head. However, prices remain €80 to €100 behind the same week last year.
Weanling bull prices have improved by €15 to €20/head in the past week. Heifers are making from €2.60/kg to €2.70/kg, on average.
