It was discovered late last week and batches that were distributed across 30 “departments”, which are similar to Irish counties, were recalled.

No public health issues have been reported so this appears a precautionary approach. Risks to human health from E coli are virtually eliminated by the cooking process.

While no business wants a recall in the context of the industry, this is a relatively small amount of product. E coli can occur in beef or indeed any food product and is an issue that has to be managed throughout the food chain.
