The British Limousin Cattle Society (BLCS) has announced plans for a major investment in the genetic improvement of the breed over the coming ten years. The society is investing £1m which they say has the potential to deliver an additional estimated £50m per annum in the pockets of commercial producers using Limousin genetics.

The plan focuses on 10 strategic breeding goals, focusing on areas such as the breed’s easy calving capabilities, improving rates of gain in growth and carcase traits, measures to identify improvements in feed efficiency.

It also identifies new pathways of collating information which can be used for genetic analysis etc.
