Paddy O’Brien will mark his 30 years in showbiz at a gala night in The Hazel Tree, Mallow, on Monday night, 18 June. The occasion will include the launch of a new double set CD collection of 36 songs chosen from Paddy’s extensive catalogue stretching back just over three decades. Country Treasures is the apt title for the new collection.

The Waterford man is among Ireland’s most prolific recording artists as he normally releases a new album every year. Studio work holds special appeal for Paddy who loves the intimate nature of pouring his heart into each song.

“I always love the challenge of a new song with good lyrics and a good story line. Just getting into the mood of the song is something I love doing. That’s the beauty of getting to the heart and soul of real country music. It is like playing well in any sport, you know yourself when you deliver a good performance,” says Paddy.

The Hazel Tree has always been a good venue for previous launch nights by Paddy and he is expecting another big attendance on Monday night. It is a central venue for many from the neighbouring counties as well and has a long association with country music.

Joining Paddy for the special celebrations will be Jimmy Buckley, Mick Flavin, Declan Nerney, Trudi Lalor, Paul Kelly, Shane Owens and The Ryan Turner Band. The show gets underway at 9pm and will conclude at 12am. Admission is €15.

The launch night in Mallow will be quickly followed by Paddy’s Country Weekend in the Clayton Whites Hotel in Wexford on 21, 22 and 23 June.

Mike Denver and his band and Paddy O’Brien and band will provide the music on Thursday night. Joe Davitt and band are first up on Friday, followed by Jimmy Buckley and band. Shane Owens opens the show on Saturday night with Robert Mizzell and The Country Kings topping the bill. Dancing gets underway at 9.30pm each night.

There is also dancing on Friday afternoon from 3-5pm to Teddy and Cathal Barry while Wexford group, Theresa, Tony and The Stars, will be on stage for the Saturday afternoon dance.
