Suckler-bred cattle continue to sell strongly in Kilrea Mart, with increased buyer demand resulting in firm prices. Fat cows sold to £1,290 for a 740kg Limousin animal. Heavy fleshed cows sold from 165p/kg to 182p/kg for good-quality beef-bred animals. Dairy-cross cows were a solid trade, making from 120p/kg to 140p/kg.

Heifers sold to £1,310 for a 610kg Limousin, with other heavy lots selling to £1,200. Midweight heifers sold from £1,000 to £1,180, with lighter types making £805 to £980.

Bullocks peaked at £1,400 for a 700kg Simmental animal. Forward lots sold upwards from £1,200 per head. Store bullocks sold from £840 to £1,140.

Calves

Bull calves sold to £370 for a Belgian Blue animal, with similar lots making £250 to £365. Blue heifer calves sold to £330.

Limousin calves sold to £250 for bulls, with heifers making the same price. Angus calves sold to £300 for bulls, with heifers making £204.

Hereford calves sold to £315 for bulls and £265 for heifers.

Fleckvieh calves sold to £280 for bulls and £250 for heifers. Friesian bull calves sold to £186 for stronger animals.

Sheep

Hoggets sold to £92 for a pen of 24.5kg animals with £91 paid for 25kg lots. Hoggets weighing 22kg to 23kg sold from £83 to £86, with 21kg making £78.

Fat ewes sold to £93 per head, with rams making £90.

Dairy

Freshly calved heifers sold to £1,910, followed by £1,880. Other noted prices saw calved heifers making £1,560 to £1,800.
