These mainly Suffolk-cross hoggets weighing 50kg sold for €117 (€2.34/kg).

Prices were steady on the previous week and mart manager Eric Driver said there was more confidence in the trade with buyers anxious to secure numbers, while producers are responding with more opting to sell in the mart over the direct factory route.

Heavy hoggets weighing 53kg upwards sold from €124 to €130, with the majority reported as selling between €126 and €128.

Lighter lots weighing 47kg to 52kg sold from €115 to €120 on average.

Store buyers remain active, with hoggets weighing 40kg upwards selling from €109 to €120, with a premium in cases for ewe hoggets.

Lots weighing 30kg to 35kg sold from €84 to €96, with hoggets rising to 40kg selling from €100 to €110.

Cull ewes remain a sharp trade, with heavy ewes topping 80kg selling from €110 to €125 on average and a top of €135 for five super Charollais ewes, while feeding ewes sold from €10 to €15 with the weight.

Ewes with lambs at foot sold from €140 to €185 for younger ewes with single lambs.

Two-year-old ewes with twin lambs sold to a top of €245 and falling back to a base of €190 for aged ewe outfits.

These fleshed 84kg Suffolk cull ewes sold for €126 (€1.50/kg).

Next Tuesday’s sale includes an entry of 80 in-lamb Belclare-cross ewes carrying two lambs and lambing from 5 April.

This pen of 44kg Suffolk hoggets sold for €109 (€2.48/kg).

These Charollais-cross store hoggets averaging 38kg sold for €88 (€2.32/kg).

A couple of cull ewes weighing 75kg sold for €105 (€1.40/kg).
