Carnew Mart in Co Wicklow is hosting a clearance sale of a top-quality ewe flock next Thursday 24 September at 12.30pm.

The flock belongs to well-known sheep farmer Michael Doyle from Glenranny, Boolavogue, Co Wexford.

The long-established flock is a previous winner of the Bord Bia sheep producer award and in recent years has focused on balancing high prolificacy with breeding well-conformed lambs with good growth rates.

An extensive vaccination programme is in place on the farm including vaccination for toxoplasmosis, enzootic abortion and clostridial vaccines.

The 200 ewes are a mixture of hoggets, two-, three- and four-year-olds with aged ewes culled this spring.

The majority of the flock is three-quarter-bred Suffolk-Belclare-cross ewes with a small number of Belclare-Suffolk-cross ewes possessing 50% Belclare breeding.

The flock is vaccinating for toxoplasmosis, enzootic abortion and clostridial diseases.

There are also five Charollais and Suffolk stock rams on offer on the day.

The flock is coming available for sale due to a switch from sheep and suckler-to-beef enterprises to dairying, with Michael’s son integral to the change of system.
