The machine set off at 12pm and went about the task.

Eight hours later, man and machine had covered 141ha (348ac).

The machine used featured a set of disco 1100RC mowers on an Axion 800 tractor. The feat was carried out in four different fields, so some productivity was lost when folding up the mower and moving down the road.

A maximum speed of 50km/h on the road and a monstrous 30km/h in the field was permitted. An average of 17.6ha/h (43.5ac) was achieved during his world record attempt.

The machine driver, Tate Mesbergen from Mesbergen Farms, said: “Not all fields were close to one another, so it was a real challenge to quickly fold up the mower units for transport and hurry along the roads.”

The previous record was set cutting grass and this attempt was using alfalfa and with conditioners on the mowers. This makes the feat even more impressive.
