The Burke family enjoyed a sensational day at Belgooly, landing the interbreed beef championship, overall and reserve Angus championships as well as three first place rosettes.

Claiming top spot in the interbreed championship was Eustace and Deirdre Burke's senior cow Clontead Lady Jane. This six-year-old cow is by former stock bull Goulding Extra, with Goulding Jane the dam. Shown alongside her March-born heifer calf, Lady Jane ticked all the boxes for young judges Shanon and Aidan Kinahan.

Simmental cow Seaview Bliss who followed Lady Jane for second place. Bliss, an eight-year-old Raceview King daughter was bred and exhibited by the O’Leary family from Ballincollig. This cow is no stranger to winning, having claimed the junior interbred title at Belgooly seven years ago as a calf. The O’Leary family also finished off the day well securing the junior interbreed championship through Seaview Jolene. This September 2017-born heifer was sired by Kilbride Farm Delboy, with Kildera Avril the dam. This heifer is another regular winner, having secured the reserve overall interbreed championship at Bandon last month.

Dairy

In the Dairy ring, the overall championship was awarded to Ricky Barrett for his Laurelelm Stonewall Cop. This cow is currently giving50l, having come off the back of a second lactation of 11,000kgs at 3.41% protein and 4.2% fat. A shower from the start, Stonewall Cop was the all-Ireland heifer champion at Limerick show as a calf.
