More than 20 complaints a week about the beef sector were received by the Competition and Consumer Protection Authority (CCPC) in August and September, the Irish Farmers Journal can reveal.
It recorded 192 complaints about the sector since October last year but 183 were received during the recent beef protests.
The complaints were mainly centred on the four-movement rule, the price paid to farmers, feedlots and the Animal Identification and Movement System, a CCPC spokesperson said.
“These complaints will undergo a screening process in order to establish whether there are any issues which may give rise to potential infringements of competition law.
“As screening of these complaints is ongoing, we are limited in the amount of information or comment that we can provide,” the spokesperson said.
