Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for Cork and Kerry.
Westerly winds will increase 50km/h to 65km/h, with gusts to around 100km/h, it said.
The warning comes into effect at 8pm on Thursday evening and ends at 6am on Friday morning.
Thursday evening rain
Elsewhere, there will be showery outbreaks of rain across the country on Thursday evening, with some heavy bursts in places.
Met Éireann said the night will continue mostly cloudy and damp, with scattered outbreaks of rain. Minimum temperatures will range from 4°C to 7°C.
Southwesterly winds will strengthen, becoming strong on exposed coasts in the south and west.
