The collective dairy industry has met to map out the
improvement of farm productivity.
The meeting, hosted by the Irish Dairy Industries Association (IDIA), took place on Thursday 20 October and heard from the country’s co-ops, Bord Bia, Teagasc, farm organisations as well as the Department of Agriculture.
Different from the dairy forum, the IDIA-led meeting set out to examine the scope for a strategy to improve farm productivity by the promotion of soil fertility, grass dry matter production and nutrient management planning.

It is believed that such a strategy would also enable good environmental outcomes and seek to address ever-increasing global regulatory challenges and market requirements.
Promotion
The group will now look at how the development of a promotion programme for soil fertility improvement and for the promotion of nutrient management planning which would improve economic sustainability at farm level can be implemented.
