Alan Levitt, vice-president of the US Dairy Export Council, said: “We are already challenging New Zealand, Australia and EU. We are now the world’s largest exporter of SMP (skim milk powder), whey and lactose.

‘‘This year, we may surpass New Zealand as the world’s largest exporter of cheese.”
He also claimed that US cost of production is lower than in most of Europe and about the same or lower than the marginal cost of increased production in Oceania.
