Thirteen participants are taking part in this year’s Dawn Young Beef Farmer Sustainability Programme, which Macra Agricultural Skillnet is running in association with Dawn Meats. The latest modules covered by the group involve LEAN principles and their application to farming. The decreased incomes in the sector mean beef farmers must keep costs to a minimum and must use all resources as efficiently as possible.
The implementation of LEAN is all about doing every task or system on farm as well as possible using resources efficiently. Beef farmers are often part-time and many of the participants found examining their ways of working an extremely useful task.
