Officials from the Department of Agriculture carried out an “enforcement operation” on a cattle farm in Munster on Friday.
The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the operation was related to the animal welfare of cattle on the farm. It is unclear how many cattle are present on the farm.
The Department did not confirm whether the cattle were seized or destroyed.
“The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine can confirm that it carried out an enforcement operation today [Friday].
“The Department does not comment regarding individual cases,” a spokesperson for the Department told the Irish Farmers Journal.
Animal welfare
News of the action in Munster comes after the Department carried out an enforcement operation on a farm in the west of Ireland on Thursday, which saw a number of cattle euthanised.
The Department “operates a confidential animal welfare helpline through which members of the public can report incidents of animal cruelty or neglect for investigation”, the spokesperson added.
The dedicated contacts in place for reporting suspected cases of animal welfare are by phone on 01-607 2379 or email animalwelfare@agriculture.gov.ie.
