An elderly farmer in Roscommon lost €400 in cash to a scam artist, according to Shannonside Radio.

The incident happened on the 21 September when a man called to the farmer’s house near Crannagh in Roscommon and claimed his car had been involved in a road accident caused by cattle owned by the farmer.

The man insisted on being paid a sum in compensation for the supposed accident, and the farmer handed over €400 in cash.

When the farmer went down to the road to investigate what had happened he could see no sign of any accident having taken place, and the man had vanished with the farmers cash.

Garda appeal

The scam artist was described as being clean shaven and wearing a brown suit. He is approximately 5’’10 in height and has thick fair hair. Garda crime prevention officer Sergeant Paul McDermott is appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information.
