Demand from forestry interests was strong for a rare 154ac holding that came on the market in west Cork in 2019, according to Dunmanway-based sales agent Daniel Lehane. The private treaty sale of the 154ac holding at Knockyrourke, Kiskeam, included land that was heavy in places. Daniel reported a lot of demand from forestry interests with three active bidders looking to plant it. Overall, it sold for €835,000 (€5,422/ac). A Scandanavian forestry fund was the primary purchaser, with a local dairy farmer buying a portion as well.

“Anything that is enclosed forestry ground is in massive demand. There’s a lot of pension funds with a quota of land to buy and it’s quiet attractive for them to go for the bigger parcels and that’s where this farm scored well. It was nice to see a local dairy farmer buy some of it as well,” Lehane said.

Sales

At the southern end of the county, Lehane reported two further private treaty sales. There was a 27ac block of land with a farmhouse at Dundeady, near the Galley Head lighthouse.

“There was a lot of interest in this piece as it’s unusual for land to come up for sale in the area and the land quality was quite good, all in grass with stunning views.

“The house was valued at €250,000 and the property was purchased by a solicitor for €530,000 (€19,630/ac),” he said.

Daniel Lehane also offered a circa 22ac farm, located close to the west Cork village of Rathbarry.

Close by was another private treaty sale consisting of a 22ac farm on the edge of Rathbarry village fetched €270,000 (€12,273/ac) bought by a local dairy farmer.
